He also received a Bernstein Fellowship and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Joseph H. Field of the West Bath District Court. Currently, Tom is a civil defense litigator for the Portland law firm Thompson & Bowie, with a primary focus on insurance defense and municipal liability. He is also a past member of the Board of Governors for the Maine State Bar Association's New Lawyers Section and currently represents Maine and Vermont for the Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association. Additionally, he is a founding board member of Portland Greendrinks.

How the IP Clinic helped Tom's career:
"I did find my time in the IP clinic to be useful in learning to deal with clients. Having to call people out of the blue and strike up a rapport with them and discuss their file is something I now do on a daily basis. In addition, there are all of the analytical and research skills that you pick up in a practical setting … that I use every day as well."
