What could be better than summer on the Maine coast, gaining knowledge and credentials that could launch your career in information privacy? Perhaps all those things with a lobster bake, too.The University of Maine School of Law, in partnership with the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), is launching the nation's first for–credit summer program in Information Privacy for law students and professionals. The Information Privacy Institute is ideal for anyone interested in breaking into this fast–growing area of the law. Participants will automatically be signed up to attend the Center's annual conference; will enjoy lobster, Maine's picturesque beaches and rocky coastline; and will have the option to sit for the CIPP Exam to gain one of the most important credentials in the information privacy profession. ScheduleThe two week program will be offered June 11–22, 2012. Law students may enroll for a minimum of 4 credits and a maximum of 6. Class sessions will run from 9–11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4 p.m. on weekdays. CoursesWe have two featured scholars this summer: Omer Tene, who will teach Information Privacy Law and Kris Klein, who will teach Advanced Topics in Privacy Law. Included in the Institute is the Data Management & Security in Global Commerce Conference hosted by the Center for Law & Innovation, scheduled for June 22, 2012. ProfessorsLaw StudentsLaw students wishing to enroll for 6 credits will attend both courses and write a paper in each course, due to the instructor by July 19, 2012. ProfessionalsProfessionals and attorneys wishing to take one or two courses may qualify for continuing education credits.
